INTRODUCTION
Radioactive material must be secured when not under the direct supervision of an authorized radiation workers. Only authorized users are allowed to handle or have access to radioactive material.
PURPOSE
To increase security controls for radioactive materials in quantities of concern for the whole IKN

PROCEDURE
- Radioactive materials must be stored in a locked area, room, or enclosure so as to be inaccessible to non-authorized personnel. The room shall be place with radiation symbol.
- Do not leave radioactive materials without radiation workers supervision. Remove the radioactive material and put it into proper storage at once.
- Visitors must have permission from RPO prior to entering a radiation area (e.g. Principal Investigator, medical physicist, etc). The visitor must be escorted at all times by an authorized user.
- All radioactive sources must only be stored in an approved designated room.
- Inventory checks of sealed sources with an activity greater than 37 MBq (1 mCi) must be conducted every three months to detect loss or theft.
- All the radioactive material shall be updated and recorded in IKN-RS-F-072 Sealed Source Inventory List.
- In the event of loss, theft or other unexplained inventory discrepancy of radioactive material, RPO must be informed immediately.
- Local authority needs to be informed verbally within 24 hours and written report is submitted within 30 days of incident.
