INTRODUCTION
A monitoring area is a radiation protection area for which fixed dose limit values are valid and which is subject to monitoring according to stipulated regulations.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this standard operating procedure (SOP) of the workplace monitoring activities are to ensure satisfactory working conditions in the radiation practices carried out by the Nuclear Medicine department through the implementation of a workplace monitoring program comply with Atomic Energy Licensing (Basic Safety Radiation Protection) Regulations 2010.

PROCEDURE
Area Monitoring
- Take reading of area monitoring device every morning before start work.
- Record the reading in form IKN-RS-F-065 Area Monitoring Record
Indirect Workplace Monitoring
- Wipe the particular area using cotton swab or alcohol swabs of 10cm x 10 cm as prepared. (Area = 100 cm2)
- Put the cotton swab or alchohol swabs inside the provided containers. The containers then will be placed in the Well Counter.
- All the wipe test samples will be tested using well counter.
- The of surface samples must be less than 2000 dpm/ 100cm2
- Record the result using dedicated form of IKN-RS-F-066 Workplace Monitoring Record.
- If any abnormal reading, the area or room shall be closed for temporary for decay purpose or perform decontamination procedure as mentioned in IKN-RS-SOP-10 Radioactive Decontamination Procedure
Direct Workplace Monitoring
- Workplace monitoring is done manually using the calibrated contamination meter before start work.
- Follow instruction of IKN-RS-SOP-11 Handling Contamination Meter and Radiation Survey Meter for operating contamination meter.
- All the measurement shall be recorded using IKN-RS-F-066 Workplace Monitoring Record. Compare the result with expectations or previous measurements and ensure the contamination level not exceed as shown in Table 1. If contamination level above the limit, the decontamination procedure should applied according IKN-RS-SOP-10 Radioactive Decontamination Procedurecontamination Procedure.
